Introduction to Sandia HEPP
Sandia HEPP is situated in Sandia town in the south of Puno Province, Peru on an elevation of 2351.823m. It has three units, 1# and 2# units of British-made Pelton hydroelectric sets, and 3# that was provided by Hangzhou Yatai Hydro Equipment Completing Co., Ltd., subsidiary of Hangzhou Regional Center for Small Hydropower(HRC) in 2008, a horizontal double-nozzle Pelton turbine unit as an expansion with the installed capacity of 1200kW, the rated head 220.05m and speed of 600 r/min.

Hangzhou Yatai signed the complete electromechanical equipment supply contract on July 26, 2007, providing turbine, generator, heavy-duty hammer butterfly valve, inlet valve, governor, excitation system, SCADA system, the oil, air and water piping. On-site installation started on June 30, 2009. The station was put into operation on November 5, 2009.

Sandia HEPP is the first overseas renovation project for power plant, though there were many difficulties in implementation. For instance, provided products are of the metric system, with the British system prevalent in Peru, leading to conformity problem in installation. Additionally, weakness in technical capacity of the Peruvian installation company was conquered with full support from Hangzhou Yatai and the team members. The project was completed with excellent results and won reputation for Hangzhou Yatai and the Peruvian partner. Switching the isolated grid mode and grid connected mode operation has accumulated experience in similar project renovation development and laid foundation to further marketing development in Peru.
