Brief introduction to GANGELAS HEPP
GANGELAS HEPP is situated in southern area in Angola, with the installed capacity of 1×400kW+1 ×800kW, the design head 23m and unit discharge 4.5m3/s. The project consists of two Horizontal Francis type hydroelectric generating sets.

The Angolan government is implementing a large-scale agriculture development project in the GANGELAS irrigation area in recent years. Since the project has started, the government has made a decision to develop GANGELAS Hydro Power Station in order to solve the problem of power shortage in the area.

Hangzhou Yatai Hydro Equipment Completing Co., Ltd., subsidiary of Hangzhou Regional Center for Small Hydropower(HRC), provided the geology survey and preliminary design, and obtained the sufficient approval of the Owner. Hangzhou Yatai signed the completing electro-mechanical equipment supply contract in April, 2012, providing turbine, generator, excitation system, governor, butterfly valve, SCADA system, temperature measuring and braking panel, automation components, oil, air and water system, etc. Hangzhou Yatai also provides the equipment installation, commissioning and site training service.

GANGELAS HEPP is a pilot power station in Angola for HRC which uses the dam’s power generation for irrigation. GANGELAS HEPP passed the preliminary acceptance organized by Angola Ministry of Agriculture in May, 2015, and it is in normal operation now.

The successful commissioning of GANGELAS HEPP accumulates the precious experience for exporting completing equipment and mechanical and electrical equipment installation work, which laid the foundation for exploiting the further small hydropower station markets in Africa for HRC.
