HRC Takes an Active Part in the 10th World Water Forum

---The 10th World Water Forum officially opened on May 20 in Bali, Indonesia. It is the world's largest international water event. With a theme of "Water for Shared Prosperity", the forum aims to provide an international platform where stakeholders from various countries can share their experiences to facilitate global water resources management challenges and common economic and social prosperity by promoting sustainable utilization and management of water resources. Mr. Xu Zhifeng, Director-General of HRC, attended the event as a member of China's water expert delegation.

Witnessed by Mr. Li Guoying, Chinese Minister of Water Resources, and Mr. Basuki Hadimuljono, Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Housing, Mr. Loïc Fauchon, President of the World Water Council, and Mr. Zhang Zhisheng, Chinese Consul -General in Denpasar, Indoneisa, HRC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). Both parties held talks and elaborated on the present and future cooperation, reaching a consensus on the details of cooperation.

On May 21, HRC hosted an international youth session of Bali Youth Plan at the forum and co-launched the Scientific and Technical Innovation Cooperation Initiative for International Water Youth. Mr. Dai Jiqun, President of the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI), announced the launch of the Youth Initiative, and Mr. Xu Zhifeng addressed the opening ceremony. Representatives from the International Association of Hydrological Sciences, World Water Council, International Water Association, International Secretariat for Water, Water Youth Network, World Youth Parliament for Water, ASEAN Centre for Energy, Zhejiang University, and National University of Singapore, along with young water professionals from China, Indonesia, India, France, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Ghana and Brazil, attended the event. They engaged in in-depth discussions on the characteristics and advantages, the existing frameworks, the challenges and the specific pathways for water youth cooperation, aiming to further unite the young professionals in the global water sector, create a platform for exchanges and cooperation and contribute to innovation and development in water sector.

During the forum, HRC representatives attended the 4th Trilateral Meeting of Water Resources Ministers among China, Japan, and ROK -Addressing Climate Change and Building Resilient Water Infrastructure; the Side Event of Basin Management under Climate Change; the 4th High-Level Seminar on Global Water Security; Topic Session-the River Life: Water and Ecosystem Connectivity and Ecological Flows; high-level event-Towards the Development of Resilient Seawater Desalination and Brackish Water Demineralization Projects in Favor of Water and Food Security; and several other topic sessions on the impact of extreme weather on water infrastructure. They also had discussions with organizations including the International Hydropower Association and actively participated in the World Water Expo.

In recent years, HRC has actively participated in important international water events such as the 10th World Water Forum, the 6th Cairo Water Week, the 18th World Water Congress. Based on the International Human Resources Training Base for Green Hydropower and the China-Pakistan "Belt and Road" Joint Laboratory on Small Hydropower Technology, HRC has extensively conducted international exchanges, joint research, capacity building, and standardization in the field of water conservancy and hydropower. With all these efforts, HRC aims to support the water-related "Belt and Road" cooperation and cope with global water challenges with international partners.(2024-05-30)
