---On January 13, 2020, co-organized by HRC and Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET), the Seminar on Small Hydropower Development and Rural Electrification for South Asian Countries was inaugurated in the "Garden City" Islamabad, Pakistan. Mr. Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Federal Minister of Science and Technology of Pakistan, and Mr. Yao Jing, Chinese ambassador to Pakistan addressed on the grand opening, both affirming the cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of small hydropower and other renewable energies. They also hope the participants could conduct extensive exchange and deepen cooperation to promote the electrification of vast rural areas in Pakistan. Nearly 80 representatives from Ministry of Science and Technology of Pakistan, PCRET, Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (PAK-EPA), Pakistan Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB), China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Ltd., Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), etc. attended the seminar.
The seminar is part of China's key research and development project called "China-Pakistan Joint Research & Development Center for Key Technologies of Small Hydropower and Rural Electrification". It aims to share and exchange the key technologies in the field of hydropower development and rural electrification, which is of great significance to intensify the technology sharing and capacity cooperation between China and South Asian countries. During the seminar, discussions were focused on SHP topics, such as Cooperation on SHP and Rural Electrification, Rural Electrification with Clean Energy, Application of Renewable Hybrid Power-generation System, Case Study & Solutions on Rural Electrification, Technical Guidelines of Small Hydropower and so on. Representatives also visited the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center for Small Hydropower, which was jointly established by HRC and PCRET.
Before the seminar, HRC delegates visited ambassador Mr. Yao Jing and shared information about HRC's cooperation with the Pakistani side. Mr. Yao introduced the priorities of China-Pakistan cooperation and encouraged HRC to make persistent efforts for enhancing China-Pak mutual cooperation with its own technical advantages. With the guidance of Chinese embassy, HRC will continue to improve people's livelihood and alleviate poverty in Pakistan through the development of SHP and the construction of rural electrification so as to push forward the high-quality development of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
