Training Course on Small Hydropower Technology in Rwanda Held Successfully in Kigali

---On December 5th, the Training Course on Small Hydropower Technology in Rwanda was concluded successfully in Kigali, Rwanda. It is the 5th one accomplished in Rwanda starting from 2015, and it is the 119th one that HRC implemented. Under the careful guidance and strong support of Training Center of the Ministry of Commerce and Chinese Embassy in Rwanda, and with the joint efforts of HRC, Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (EDCL) of Rwanda Energy Group, all lecturers and 45 training participants, the 25-day foreign-aid training program entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has achieved fruitful results.


During the training, the participants were given lectures on advanced technology and practical experience in the fields of small hydropower development, safe operation of small hydropower, ecological small hydropower, rural electrification construction, water resources management and dam safety, etc. Site visits were arranged to Kavumu small hydropower station in Northern Province, water resources engineering laboratory of College of Science and Technology£¬University of Rwanda£¨CST-UR£©, High E-tech smart grid laboratory of African Centre of Excellence in Energy For Sustainable Development and NZOVE water treatment plant. In addition, the participants also attended the first "Seminar on China Human Resources Development Training Program" organized by the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Rwanda.

Mr. Wang Jiaxin, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda, Mr. Donath Harerimana, Director of Generation and Transmission of Energy Development Co., Ltd. (EDCL), Rwanda Energy Group, Dr. Ignace Gatare, Principal of College of Science and Technology (CST), University of Rwanda presented on the closing and delivered speech respectively. Mr. Lin Ning, Division Chief of Foreign Affairs and Training of HRC presided over the closing ceremony.

This training course was strongly supported by the Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda. The Counselor Mr. Wang Jiaxin awarded the certificates on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce of China to the participants. In his speech, he fully acknowledged the substantial achievement that HRC obtained in the foreign-aid training in small hydropower-related fields in Rwanda over the years, and he expected that more productive cooperation will be carried out in the field of renewable energy. Representatives of the participants also presented gifts and express their gratitude to HRC for the contribution in promoting the development of small hydropower in Rwanda.(2019-12-24)
