---Entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce of China, "2018 Training Course on Small Hydropower Technology for Ethiopia" was successfully inaugurated by HRC in Addis Ababa Science and Technology University on July 24th. Ms. Liu Yu, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Ethiopia, Mr. Nurelegne Tefera, the President of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, and Mr. Huang Jianping, Deputy Director General of HRC attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches on the ceremony.
Ms. Liu Yu introduced the cooperation between China and Ethiopia in China foreign-aid project, capacity building, studying in China, and so on. She hoped that Ethiopia can really get benefit from the cooperation, and give more comments and suggestions. Mr. Nurelegne Tefera expressed his gratitude to Chinese government for supporting the development of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. He summarized the good cooperation between the university and HRC in small hydropower and other fields of renewable energy resources. It is hoped that, under the framework of the cooperation on China-Africa Technical Transfer, Research and Training Center on Clean Energy and Rural Electrification, the two sides can develop further cooperation in the field of capacity building, discipline construction and so on. He also expected that similar training courses can be held continuously, so that more local technicians will get benefit. Mr. Huang Jianping briefed HRC's international cooperation in the field of small hydropower and rural electrification. He also pointed that this training course, based on the theme of small hydropower, was designed according to actual requirements of Ethiopia, which has been adopted as one of important measures to help electrification progress and promote the industrialization development.
The 25-day training courses focus on the sharing of SHP-related developing practice, proven technology and applicable equipment and other relevant topics. Site visits will be arranged to Ethiopia's first hydropower station, which is innovated with the assistance from Chinese government, and the renewable energy projects such as small hydropower in Adama. 50 technicians and administrative staffs from Ethiopia's Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity, Ministry of Science and Technology, Science &Technology Information Center, Ethiopian Energy Authority, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, and Ethiopia Electric Power attended the training.(2018-07-30)
