---Entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce of China, "2016 Training Course on Small Hydropower Technology for Rwanda" was successfully inaugurated in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda on July 20th. Mr. Zhang Liyong, Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office of the Embassy of China in Rwanda, Mr. Emmanuel Kamanzi, Managing Director of Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (EDCL) of Rwanda Energy Group, Mr. Diog¨¨ne Murindahabi, Principal of Integrated Polytechnic Regional Research Center (IPRC) Kigali and Mr. Xu Jincai, Director General of HRC attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches respectively. This is the 83rd training course that HRC organizes and hosts since its establishment.
The opening ceremony was held in IPRC, Kigali, chaired by Mr. Lin Ning, Division Chief of Foreign Affairs and Training of HRC. Mr. Xu Jincai introduced HRC's international cooperation on small hydropower and rural electrification briefly, and he pointed out, on the concluded 27th African Union (AU) summit in Kigali, member countries have called for giving more emphasis on industrialization and electrification projects in order to promote the sustainable development of economy in African countries. The subject of this training course is small hydropower, so it is hoped the training would play an active role in promoting rural electrification in Rwanda. Counselor Zhang Liyong introduced the cooperation achieved between China and Rwanda in 2015 and highly praised the training courses on small hydropower conducted in Kigali, Rwanda, from which he expects Rwanda engineers could benefit much more. Mr. Kamanzi, on behalf of Rwanda side, expressed their sincere gratitude to Chinese Government and HRC, and hoped that China and Rwanda would initiate more cooperation in the field of small hydropower and expand know-how transfer in terms of project design, planning, construction, and management on the basis of training programs.
This 30-day training course will cover lectures and on-site visit regarding the design of hydropower station, the construction, management and operation as well. 30 engineers and administrators from Ministry of Infrastructure, Rwanda Energy Group, Kigali Institute of Research and Technology, Rwanda MINEGA Energy Corporation attend the training.(2016-07-25)
