2009 Seminar on Small Hydropower Technology Concluded with Full Success

   ---Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, organized by National Research Institute of Rural Electrification (Hangzhou Regional Center for Small Hydropower), the Seminar on Small Hydropower Technology has been a great success from 1st to 21st Dec, 2009.

   On December 21st £¬the closing ceremony was held in HRC's multi-functional hall. 26 participants from 14 countries attended the ceremony. Present at the ceremony were Mr. Fan Aihua, Division Chief from Commerce Department of Zhejiang Province, Ms. Cheng Xialei, Director of HRC, Mr. Xu Jincai, Deputy Director and Mr. Zhu Xiaozhang, Honorary Director of HRC. Mr. Pan Daqing, Chief of Foreign Affairs and Training Division of HRC, presided over the closing ceremony.

   On behalf of Ministry of Commerce of P.R.C and Commerce Department of Zhejiang Province, Mr. Fan Aihua gave a speech. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to HRC and his deep respect to all the participants on their successful completion of the study courses. Mr. Fan pointed that Chinese government highly stressed the cooperation and friendship with other developing countries especially African countries; the cooperation between China and Africa was now developing in a broader and deeper manner. Meanwhile, he put forward sincere anticipation to the participants and encouraged them to make further contributions to the economic development, poverty alleviation and environmental protection.

   On behalf of HRC, Director of HRC Ms. Cheng Xialei and Honorary Director of HRC Mr. Zhu Xiaozhang gave an address respectively. Ms. Cheng expressed her vision that after returning home, all the participants would play a more active role in contributing to the small hydropower industry and would keep in touch with HRC so as to achieve "win-win" cooperation. Mr. Zhu shared the Chinese construction and development experiences with all the participants and expected that based on the South-South cooperation, the participants would build their own countries with their intelligence, wisdom and industrious efforts.

   Mr. Steven from Zambia gave a speech on behalf of all the participants. Firstly, he expressed thanks from all the participants to the leaders and staff of HRC, the lecturers and the staff of hotel. He said "our schedule was never with a dull moment as you expertly tailored our workshop with recreational and tourism activities which saw us play games at the West Lake.","to the Ministry of Commerce of the Peoples Republic of China, HRC and NRIRE please continue with this noble cause. You have demonstrated yet again that you are indeed a true partner in development."

   One of the shining points in this seminar is the on-site visit to the Three Gorges Project which is considered as the 8th wonder in the world. Our participants were overwhelmed with admiration: "it is so splendid that Chinese people have created the biggest hydropower station in the world! Nowadays, the advanced equipment made by western countries can also be manufactured by China, which is really an honor for the entire developing world and at the same time demonstrates the greatness of Chinese people" The visit to Three Gorges Project have been an unforgettable experience in their lives.

   On behalf of all participants, Mr. Ashie, another monitor of the class presented a precious gift to HRC--- a group photo of all participants and HRC staff, with names and countries printed below. This photo would be the eternal record of the unforgettable 21 days of all the participants around Hangzhou, China.

   After the ceremony, the participants held their certificates issued by Ministry of Commerce and gifts given by HRC with joy and excitement, warmly inviting HRC staff to take photos with them. At this time of departure, friendship remains in our heart. In the following days, participants would leave China for their home counties successively. (2009-12-24)
