---From
20th to 27th in July, entrusted by the World Bank, Mr. Li
Zhiwu, a senior engineer with HRC and Mr. Wolfgang Mostert,
an energy expert from Denmark, took an investigation and
consultation on the private investment in medium and small
hydropower in Yunnan province, focusing on the general situation,
policies and norms, price mechanism of electricity, sharing
of investment risks and governmental management and supervision,
etc. The consultation report will be submitted as a kind
reference for the World Bank to put investment in medium
and small hydropower, and also for the local government
of Yunnan province to formulate the related polices.
The exploitable medium and small
hydropower in Yunnan amounts to 17,400MW, accounting for
1/5 of the total in China. By the end of 2003, the installed
capacity of medium and small hydropower in Yunnan reached
3,520MW, and on this basis, an amount of 3GW is planed to
be added before the year of 2010. Furthermore, it is expected
to be over 1000GW by the year of 2020.
The boom of private investment in
medium and small hydropower in Yunnan attracts more attention
of the World Bank, which will play an active role in further
development of hydropower in this province. (2004-07-30)
